We arrived in Kerala by bus, a long and dusty 7 hour journey in one of Southern India's window less buses. I'm quite taken to the buses in the South, something very liberating and exciting about having the wind in your hair and you move onto the next destination - enhances the feeling of being footloose and fancy free! It was past 10.00pm when we reached the main bus terminus in Ernakulum, too late to take the ferry across to Fort Kochi, so rather than trying to figure out yet more buses we took the easy option and bunked down for the night at a hotel at the bus station.

Clad in traditional Kerala saris and bearing offerings of food, more than two million women - perhaps more - thronged the state capital Trivandrum on Sunday.
The women braved searing heat to offer a special meal at the Attukal temple to Hindu goddess Bhagavathy - one incarnation of the potent goddesses Kali and Saraswati.

Shopping is not pakdokter's forte, so pakdokter gave it a miss and decided to do a walking tour of Fort Kochi. Fort Kochi is small enough a town and with a walking tour-guide-pamphlet produced by the Malabar House, pakdokter set out to explore the town and immortalise some of the scenes with pakdokter's little compact Canon Ixus

Quiet flow the lakes of Kerala, almost touching the soul with ethereal placidity. Fringed with coconut palm groves and other tropical vegetation, the lakes of Kerala are those natural water bodies which should not be given a miss for their inspiring beauty. The 34 lakes of Kerala could mostly be divided into those which border a sand bank, those which are surrounded by sand bank and those which run perpendicular to the bank. While the trip to all the three could be interesting those ideal for sailing will be the first two

Kerala is a very easy place to simply sit back and enjoy. The name means "land of coconuts," and the palms shade nearly the entire state from the tropical sun; many call the beach at Kovalam the best in India; visitors can spend a day riding small ferries through the backwater lagoons or watching elephants cavort in the wildlife sanctuaries; the spicy food may be the best vegetarian cuisine on the planet.
